188. The Police Department, under the authority of the director and in the territory of the Community, shall

(a)  maintain peace, order and public safety;

(b)  prevent crime and offences, seek out offenders, and summon them before the courts; and

(c)  see to the application of the laws in force in Québec, and of the by-laws, resolutions and orders of the Community and of the municipalities.
