12. [Following an information] After an information has been laid against a young person and at any time thereafter, the criminal and penal prosecuting attorney may, if considered appropriate, refer the case to the provincial director for an assessment under section 8 if an assessment could not be completed previously, or when new considerations are such that the assessment by the provincial director could lead to a different conclusion. In such a case, the criminal and penal prosecuting attorney must indicate to the provincial director the date of the next stage in the judicial process.
