7. Any member of the council of a municipality which has joined the general plan, where no retirement plan was in force before the adoption of the by-law contemplated in section 6, may notify in writing the municipality and the Commission of his intention to participate in such plan.
Such participation takes effect from the first of the month following the reception of the notice by the Commission.
The decision to participate in the general plan is irrevocable for the duration of one term of the member of the council or, in the case of successive terms, for the duration of such terms.
