271. (1)  Every candidate shall be guilty of an unlawful act who, during an election, by himself or by any person on his behalf:
(a)  Hires a vehicle from any person or promises to pay or pays for the use of a vehicle to convey an elector to or from the poll, or to or from the neighbourhood thereof; or
(b)  Advances or reimburses the travelling or other expenses of an elector in going to or returning from an election.
Every candidate or other person so offending shall incur a fine of $100, payable with costs to any person who sues therefor.
(2)  Any elector renting to any person any vehicle for any candidate or for any agent of a candidate, for the purpose of conveying any elector to or from the poll, shall ipsofacto be disqualified from voting at such election, and shall, for every such offence, incur a fine of $100 payable with costs to any person who sues therefor.
(3)  In interpreting this section, the word vehicle shall include every means of conveyance, by land, water or in the air.
