187. The Commissioner is appointed for a non-renewable seven-year term. At the expiry of the term, the Commissioner remains in office until replaced.

187. The mission of the Conseil is to advise the Minister responsible for the administration of this Act on any matter relating to the French language in Québec.
In that capacity, the Conseil shall
(1)  advise the Minister on any matter the Minister submits to it;
(2)  bring to the Minister’s attention any matter which, in its opinion, requires the attention of the Government.

187. The Conseil shall be composed of twelve members, appointed by the Government, namely:
(a)  the chairman and a secretary;
(b)  two persons chosen after consultation with the representative socio-cultural associations;
(c)  two persons chosen after consultation with the representative union bodies;
(d)  two persons chosen after consultation with the representative management groups;
(e)  two persons chosen after consultation with the universities;
(f)  two persons chosen after consultation with the representative associations of the ethnic groups.
