268. Every person who, during an election, gives or supplies to any elector, at the expense of the candidate, any meat, drink or refreshment, or agrees to pay for any such meat, drink or refreshment, shall be guilty of an offence and is liable, on summary prosecution to a fine of not more than $100, and, failing payment, to imprisonment for not more than three months.
Every elector who, with a corrupt motive, accepts or takes any such meat, drink, refreshments or provisions, shall also be guilty of the offence of “treating”, and liable to a fine of not more than $50 nor less than $10, and, on failure to pay such fine, to imprisonment for three months.
