Act respecting museums
Chapter M-43 is replaced by the National Museums Act (chapter M-44). (1983, c. 52, s. 53).

1. The Minister of Cultural Affairs shall have charge of the carrying out of sections 2, 4 and 6 of this act.

2. The Government may establish, in the cities of Québec and Montréal, museums for the study of history, sciences and fine arts.

3. The Government is authorized to acquire all lands, buildings, leases of houses or other leases it may deem necessary, and effect all construction required for the establishment of a museum in the city of Québec.

4. The Government may, for the proper operation of such museum, appoint the necessary staff and provide for their remuneration. The latter, under the direction of the Minister of Cultural Affairs, shall have charge of the carrying out of the provisions of this act and the performance of the duties which may be assigned to them, according to circumstances, by the Government.

5. The Government is likewise authorized to acquire all lands, buildings, leases of houses or other leases it may deem necessary, and effect all construction required for the establishment of a museum in the city of Montréal.

6. The Government may adopt regulations as to the proper working of such museums, both for the staff and for the public to be admitted therein.

7. This Act shall operate notwithstanding the provisions of sections 2 and 7 to 15 of the Constitution Act, 1982 (Schedule B of the Canada Act, chapter 11 in the 1982 volume of the Acts of the Parliament of the United Kingdom).

REPEAL SCHEDULE

In accordance with section 17 of the Act respecting the consolidation of the statutes (chapter R-3), chapter 63 of the Revised Statutes, 1964, in force on 31 December 1977, is repealed effective from the coming into force of chapter M-43 of the Revised Statutes.
